Gang of Four

Today I learned that Ramona, CA, is a small unincorporated community outside of San Diego which holds the unfortunate distinction of being the starting point of 2003′s Cedar Fire, the largest fire in California history. I happened upon this historical fact while researching a group of four young toughs who referred to themselves as The 4 Ramona Rats. Sometime in the early part of the last century, this motley crew wreaked havoc on Ramona’s quiet suburban streets with their sass and witty one-liners, such as “Stop, I like it,” “Dance on this a little while,” and “No, do you?

As it turns out, long before counter-culture and youth rebellion were a pervasive marketing demographic, Fut, Holy, Turd and Moose found identity and companionship in a shared defiance towards the standards held by contemporary society. It’s nice to see that not much has changed . . .
